Community Outreach
Outreach Children of Pimienta, Honduras
Dr. Beerman aspires to spread the positive experiences of modern dentistry to both her patients and to those less fortunate in her local and global community through dental outreach projects and foreign mission trips providing dental care. She participates in a yearly dental outreach in Honduras and together with her team hosts local outreach days to provide dental care to underserved populations in their community.
Being involved in outreach projects became a priority for Dr. Beerman as she had the remarkable opportunity to work in an orphanage in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, as a senior dental student. She made the trip with several dentists, dental specialists, and other students to provide care to the children of the area. From the beginning of the trip, her eyes were opened to the importance of give back within the profession as a part of her life. After being involved in foreign outreach missions to Venezuela and Honduras for six years, she and her team began to think of the importance of looking closer to home.
Local Smiles for Hope Dental Outreach
While studying at the Pankey Institute in Florida in 2008, the call to do more in her local community became stronger for Dr. Beerman. From that initiative, Smiles of Hope was born. It was the first of many local outreach days to follow in the greater Kansas City area. The first project served the women of a local domestic violence shelter, the Hope House. Dr. Beerman and her team hoped that restoring a small piece of hope in the lives of these women with dental care could be the tipping point for change in their esteem and lives. It was very rewarding to see the bright smiles of the patients at the end of the day and to hear their genuine words of gratitude. What Dr. Beerman and her team have learned from their experiences is that giving back gives so much more to them than they could ever hope to give to others. They believe the world is full of possibility and abundance for those who are willing to believe in themselves, believe in the goodness of humanity, and give.
